Erawan Museum

The Erawan Museum is well known for its gigantic three-headed elephant statue easily spotted from the highway. It is a fascinating cultural site and a short drive from the resort.

The elephant statue itself is made of bronze and weighs 250 tons, is 29 metres high, 39 metres long and stands on a 15 metres high pedestal.  Visitors can enter the pedestal, which is the 1st and 2nd floors of a heritage museum, representing the Underworld and Earth of the ancient Hindu conception of the universe respectively, with the third and top floor representing Heaven and actually located in the belly of the elephant.
